Mastering Minimalism with a Modern Coastal Interior Design | Behind The Design
Melbourne-based interior designers and property specialists Elle and Alanah of Twostyle Interiors chose our brushed brass range to enhance the minimalist approach to their Sorrento project in Mornington Peninsula. They felt that the golden finish of our brushed brass cultivated the coastal feel they were seeking to achieve.
“The brief for the project was to keep it quite minimalist, modern, but with a soft beach touch,” they said. “The kitchen is quite modern with black veneer and marble benchtops to really bring in that […] element throughout the house. For this Sorrento project, we went with brushed brass finishes. We just felt it had more of a coastal feel.”
Open-Plan Living Possibilities
The possibilities of open-plan living are beautifully realised throughout this purposefully designed minimalist home that adapts its Melbourne architecture in interesting ways. For example, the master bedroom uses handsome VJ panelling to the back of the bed, complementing a recessed artwork niche that adds intrigue to the scheme.
Other notable features include the striking architectural black timber battens that appear to support the ceiling in the open living area and serve to separate the dining area skillfully.
The master ensuite showcases a smart black veneer double vanity unit and uses the creative combo of grey terrazzo tiles and white finger tiles to frame it. Our Milani Extended Basin Mixer and Elysian Single Towel Rail in brushed brass are elegantly highlighted here.
Our Finley Shower Rail Set and Elysian Minimal Mixer and Spout Set similarly feature in brushed brass to keep the bathroom fixture finishes aesthetically consistent throughout.
“We’ve used ABI in the majority of our recent projects. They’re just such great finishes,” Elle and Alanah say. “I think the quality is amazing, the style is just great, and they just complement the majority of our homes.”
Modern Coastal Interior Design
Large recessed wall niches are stylish ways to achieve internal storage or show off items of interest. This one in the living area makes it a significant feature of the home, with ample space to display a variety of articles without compromising the careful minimalist modern interior design.
The neutral tones of the wood floor panelling throughout the home introduce an element of warmth that contrasts harmoniously with the black veneer. It’s an inspired choice that is one of the defining attributes of this modern coastal interior design.
Elle and Alanah are experts in property styling and custom furniture fit-outs. The second living area introduces bolder colours into the minimalist scheme with an open fireplace promising warmth during the colder climate.
Modern-Coastal Integrity
The girls say their favourite part of their job is bringing their client’s vision to life by creating spaces they’re proud of and comfortable being in. Take this bedroom, which continues the minimalist theme; however, uses warm fabric colours to inject vitality into the space.
